The "Akademie für Alte Musik" is competing with other orchestras presenting historical performances but it's the only one that performs with historical instruments in Berlin.

The history of the ensemble started in 1982 when young musicians from various eastern german orchestras founded an independend orchestra with historical instruments. Ways apart from the institutionalised productions the intention was to promote performances true to the style of how ancient music was originally performed.
Since the breaking of the wall in 1989 the international activities hav been developed continuosly. After the debut at the Wigmore Hall in London 1999, the Akademie is often partner of the Mezzosopranist Cecilia Bartoli: Us a result of this partnership the album with Italian Arias by Gluck was created.
